Samuel graduated from Cathedral High School on June 7, 1934 in a class of 143 students. Cathedral High was a private Catholic high school in Indianapolis run by the Brothers of Holy Cross.
On October 16, 1940, Samuel’s draft card was filled out, one month after the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 was passed. He had a light complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, stood 5 feet and 10 inches tall, and weight about 166 lbs. He lived at 1324 Comer St with Rosemary. He worked at the Indiana Bell Telephone Co. at 240 North Meridian St. in Downtown Indiana (pictured). The Bell Telephone Company was dismantled in 1984 by the United States Department of Justice, and the address now belongs to AT&T.
